In small business news, National Small Business Week is scheduled to take place the week of May 16, and will honor the nations top entrepreneurs in Washington, D.C., notes BusinessNewsDaily.
“This country owes a lot to the ingenuity of the small business owners,” says Brian Miller, COO and president of consulting firm The Entrepreneurs Source. “Entrepreneurs create new businesses and are primary engines for job creation and poverty reduction. They also are responsible for the commercial introduction of many new products and services, and for opening new markets.”
Other cities throughout the country, such as Charlotte, North Carolina and San Francisco, California, are hosting local small business events concurrently with the national celebration. There will also be educational opportunities, such as marketing institute DemandQuests free three-hour seminars focused on helping small business owners with web marketing in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In addition, the event will laud the National Small Business Person of the Year. Candidates include state winners from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam.
The news source points out that candidates for the award own or work at a broad range of vocations, including a pediatric outpatient clinic, a technology solutions company, a gourmet chocolate company, an eco-friendly commercial cleaning company and an educational publisher.
